Piero De Chiara ha potuto osservare i sistemi di comunicazione da diversi punti di vista. Dopo aver fondato e diretto radio di informazione e dopo una esperienza politica nel PCI/PDS, è stato dirigente in OLIVETTI, Telecom Italia e LA7. E’ stato Consigliere in AGCOM e vice-presidente del Comitato nazionale Italia digitale, che ha coordinato lo switch-off da televisione analogica a digitale. Collabora con sindacati e associazioni del terzo settore,in particolare su due questioni: come l’uso di dati e calcoli interferisca sulle dinamiche sociali e come sia possibile negoziarlo.

Piero De Chiara has been observing and monitoring mass media and the evolution of communication systems in general under many point of views. After having founded and directed different radio stations in Italy, and after a political experience inside the former Communist Party and later Democratic Party, he has been manager for Olivetti, then Telecom Italia and the tv channel La7. Lately he has had a counselling position for the AGCOM and has been appointed vice-president of the National Committee Italia digitale, which coordinated the switch off from the analogical to the digital tv broadcasting system. He now contributes with Unions and Third sector associations, in particular on issues such as the use of data and algorythm, and how they affect and interfere over social dynamics and how this aspect can be negotiated.
